Guilt V. Shame

What is the difference between guilt and shame and why is the distinction crucial for our emotional and spiritual health. It s invaluable to discern the difference between guilt and shame so that we can respond appropriately in situations and can ask others to respond to us appropriately and fairly also. It s also vital that we know whether we are feeling bad because of something we have done or because we have simply gotten into the habit of feeling bad. Guilt is something our conscience compels us to feel when we have acted in a way that is not in alignment with our own moral compass. If we believe in being honest and we lie, we will feel guilty even if we justify it as a white lie to ourselves or others . If we believe in the Golden Rule, Do unto others , we will feel guilty if we treat someone disrespectfully or unfairly. In guilt, we feel bad about what we have done, not who we are. We are able to distinguish between the goodness of who we fundamentally are and the mistake we have made that requires...

Do We Rely Too Much On Electronic Parts?

Just an innocent question and one that I don t have any for sure answers to but one that deserves at least some thought. I am thinking them number one because my lovely brother-in-law has me writing these joyous articles for him as his employee and also because electronic parts are one of the most frustrating parts for me of the technology boom that has happened in the last 100 but way more quickly in the last 30 years. What frustrates me so much about electronic parts. Well for one thing I don t understand them and don t have the power therefore to fix them or to at least know what needs to be fixed, what kind of effort it will be, and maybe most importantly how much it should cost to fix it. It is this way with any system that you don t understand and it frustrates me to no end because people who do understand can t be trusted oftentimes and we end up paying for being ignorant. Electronic parts also have a habit of breaking at the worst times, and the more we rely on them the worse it is when they unreliably...

The Real Adoption Story

Americans have varying views and beliefs about adoption, many formed by media coverage of adoption by celebrities or that rare case of birthparents fighting to overturn an adoptive placement. Articles in local newspapers lead some to think that the only way to adopt is to travel abroad rather than seeking a child from their public child welfare agency. Controversy over whether or not gay parents should be allowed to adopt has also generated a significant amount of media attention. Coverage of the issue has created a greater awareness of adoption, but also many misconceptions. Perhaps I can shed some additional light on adoption, particularly about the adoption of children in the child welfare system by gay parents. Certain realities exist which underscore attempts by state child welfare practitioners to secure a permanent family for the 523,000 children in foster care, either through reunification with the child 8217;s family or adoption. Of those about 62 percent would be adopted by their foster parent s , 23...
